Im out to teach two things. One is a song that's easy to learn, and two about tuning the guitar.
The song is "Freebird" by Lynrd Skynrd. The chord progression is G, D/F#, Em, F, C, D and repeat. Mix in D, Dsus4, D, Dsus4 after the second repeat. Then go back to the original progression. End the song on the D chord in the original progression.
G - 320033 D/F# - 2x023x Em - 022000 F - xx3211 or 113211 C - 332010 D - xx0232 Dsus4 - xx0233
Now tune all of the strings down one half step. Tune from the open E,A,D,G,B,E to Eb,Ab,Db,Gb,Bb,Eb. You need only to loosen each of the strings. Now play those same chord shapes. This works really well on an classical acoustic with nylon strings.
Now you are playing the song through the progression of chords Gb, Db/F, Ebm, E, B, Db. Followed by Db, Dbsus4, Db, Dbsus4. This lower tuning works good for a lot of songs, not for all songs. You'll have to experiment to find out. Try playing some songs you know and see how well it works for you. Let me know what you come up with.
Happy Playing, Anthony
