Defining Beginner

How do you know if you're a beginner, intermediate or advanced guitar player? By what you know? How well you play? Both?

There are many who will debate this definition.
Beginner would mean, just getting started, learning basic chords, how to read standard notation and or tablature. Intermediate would classify you as knowing most basic chords, yet still learning scales and theroy, and knowing a few easy to intermediate level songs that you can play either peices of, or from beginning to end. Advanced intermediate would allow you to apply scales & theory and compose, or copy songs to play professionally as a working musician if you desired.
