Granted, nothing can replace the pure power and superior sound of acoustic drums, but for practice purposes(unless you have a sound proof studio in your home) and small venues(100-200 people) where sound needs to be more controlled I find electric drums better.

Funny story ;D I have been playing in bands for over 28 years. My last band "Chatterbox" had 2 different drummers during the creation and recording of our CD single titled "Snap". Our first drummer played acoustics. He was a big guy and hit real hard, to the point that at gigs, club owners would ask us to turn his drums down. He was'nt even miked ;D Upon his departure, our new drummer entered the band with a set of electric drums. The club owners and the crowds thrived on his drum sound, which he was able to "taylor" to a specified volume. I would agree that nothing can replace the sound of acoustic drums, yet would also agree that for many reasons, in many situations...the electric drums have many advantages.

Now, ofcourse, the other interesting aspesct of this is that electric drums will only sound as good as the sound system their being played through. So if you play a gig at a club with a crummy sound system I don't care if your playing the latest version of the Roland V-drum line, the drums are going to sound like CRAP!! What to do??

Yes you are absolutely correct. Another very bad experience is having old patch cords, that loose their connection. I saw a band play one evening, and the drummer wasted over 10 to 15 minutes during each set, wiggling his cords to get them to short back on ;D It was rather Having a good sound system and a good mix is a definite must! Thanks for your input and feel free to keep posting!

In terms of what is better soundwise? I'm almost certain that a nice Tama set could whoop the Roland V-drums' butt! Although, what was mentioned earlier is very true. It all depends on the mix -GuitarExodus
