Can someone tell me why some guitarist play Fender and some play Gibson and what is the best, and what should I buy, and why?

i don't know much at guitars, but i'll give this my best shot. (btw, im new. hey!)
gibsons are better guitars but more expensive. when fender came out, they brought out cheap guitars and people bought them. They are good guitars, but i prefer gibson.
And above that i prefer b. c. rich. Jacksons are sweet too

Fenders in general, produce more of a Hendrix, SRV type sound that has the high pitch biting sound, also a smooth bluesy tone, which is due to them having "single coil" guitar pickups.Gibson's have a fatter and thicker and heavier sound, because they use double humbucker pickups, and you'll get more of a Mick Mars, Randy Rhoads type sound. Fender now offers (as does Peavey) some of thier guitars that have both style of pickups, which allows you to get either sound. I've got em both!Hope this helps.
