The following sounds really cool on a xylophone, haven't tried it on guitar yet, but I can tab it for anyone who would like to try.
Play the notes C, D, F, G, A, and C, D in the next octave. It's the root, major 2nd, major 4th, 5th, major 6th, octave, and major 9th. It reminds me of Chinese or Japense music.
You could also play double stops, two notes played at the same time. C and F, D and G, F and B. Repeat the C and F several times then move to D and G, repeat several times, and move to F and B, and so on. Then play it in descending order. It also sounds kind of oriental.
And here's something. Once you know its the root, maj2, maj4, 5th, maj6, octave, and maj9 you can move it to other keys. In the key of G it is G, A, C, D, E, G, A. And even more amazing all of these notes still fit in the key of C. Just move up and down the notes in ascending and descending order.
Now for the tab on guitar. Start with the index finger on the third fret fifth string and allow the fingers to fall naturally onto the other notes. The index finger should fall on the A third string second fret. You could also play the D at seventh fret third string. Now ascend and descend through the notes:
----------------------------------------
-------------------------3--------------
----------------2--5-----------------
---------3--5---------------------------
--3--5-----------------------------------
-------------------------------------------
Happy playing
