Hey everyone,
I’d like to share with you some chord switches in D minor.
Start with a Dm chord (xx0231) with the index on first string, ring on second string, and middle finger on third string. Drop the pinky, while leaving other fingers in place to make Dsus4 (xx0233).
Switch to D7sus4 (xx0213) while playing the Dsus4 chord by moving the index finger from the first string to the second string. Lift the ring finger off of the second string third fret to form D7sus4. From here you could reverse the process. Move ring finger to second string third fret. Drop the pinky on first string third fret to form Dsus4. Move index to first string and lift the pinky off the third fret of the first string to get Dm. Or after D7sus4 drop the pinky to reform Dsus4 chord. You can play the Dsus4 chord at the same time that you are making changes with the other fingers.
If you form the D7sus4 chord differently it will make other chord switches easier. Instead of using the index, middle, and ring fingers form the D7sus4 chord with index, middle, and pinky with pinky at second string third fret. Now drop the ring finger onto the fourth string 3rd fret to form Dm/F. (xx3231). Lift your fingers in this triangular shape and place them down all together ,one string over, to form the C7 chord. (x32310)
Or from the D7sus4 chord (with pinky) keep the pinky at third fret 2nd string and index at 1st fret 1st string. Move the middle and ring fingers to form C(add9)sus4. (x32031) Expand the middle and ring fingers to get G7 (320031)
And here’s kind of a tricky switch. Keeping your ring finger on the G at the third fret 6th string, index at the first string 1st fret, pinky at the 2nd string 3rd fret move the ring finger to form Dm/G. Make sure those fingers already in position remain in contact with the fretboard. It will definitely take some practice. You could also make the Dm/C (x30231) by moving the ring finger to the C at the third fret fifth string.
If anyone can come up with some good switches between chords or some new and creative chords let me know.
Happy Playing,
Anthony
