This trick rules. You can hear it on Van Halen's version of "You're No Good" on Van halen 2 And it's moveable, so you can play it any key This is in A.
Begin by bending the 7th fret G string a whole step, (so it sounds like the 9th fret) release the bend to it's normal pitch, then re-bend it again to a whole step and then tap the note on the 12th fret, then pull off to the bent note on the 7th fret, as you relase the bent note, then re-bend it, then relase it, then re-bend it again, and the final step is to tap the 10th fret.
b/release/b tap release/bend/release/bend tap e :-----------------|-----------------|-----------------| B :-----------------|-----------------|-----------------| G :-7------------12-|-(7)----7--- -|------------10--| D :-----------------|-----------------|-----------------| A :-----------------|-----------------|-----------------| E :-----------------|-----------------|-----------------|

This trick is cool. I checked it out on Van Halen 2 and you have it right on the money. Here's another good example that shows Van Halen's fingertapping style from the "Eruption" solo.T=fingertapp p=pull-off h=hammer-on. Play each lick 2 times, and you can hear how the pattern develops. I learned this fingertapping style from the free videos here at gtb, but then when I listened to eruption, I figured this part of the solo out by ear. And scince I have been listening to alot of old Van Halen, I see how Eddie often used the same fingertapping style.
Tap the 17th fret and pull-off to the 12th fret, then hammer-on to 15, etc... e :-----------------|-----------------|-----------------| B :-17-12-15--------|-17-11-14--------|-17--10-13-------| G :-----------------|-----------------|-----------------| D :-----------------|-----------------|-----------------| A :-----------------|-----------------|-----------------| E :-----------------|-----------------|-----------------|
e :-----------------|-----------------|-----------------| B :-17-9-12---------|-----------------|-----------------| G :-----------------|-----------------|-----------------| D :-----------------|-----------------|-----------------| A :-----------------|-----------------|-----------------| E :-----------------|-----------------|-----------------|

By " tapping " on the 12th and 10th or 17th fret You must mean that you are using your picking hand (right hand for rmost players) could you be more specific on how the tap is done, is it basically a hammer down move with the index or other finger, can you tap with a pick Or do I have the idea all l wrong???

Yes. Use your index finger to produce the sound of the note when tapping. The harder you hit the string when you tap, the better sounding note you will produce. To get a better idea, go to the free videos page here at www.guitartabbooks.com/freelessons/freeguitarvideos.htmand download from Volume 4 /Sample 2 * Fingertapping. I bought this video and it was the best purchase I've made in regards to guitar tricks.

The more I use tapping the better I like it. Opens up a whole new sound and it is reallty fun!!!!
In that Van Hallen Clip re:Tapping He plays this whole group of different teckniques. Right after he does a bass side slide from fret 12 down to fret 1 or 2 he does this riff with his index on the 5th ffrett. This is right before he does the tapping on the 10th fret.
Man I am having trouble figuring out exactly what he is doing I can get it once in a while, , pretty close to the same effect, but , I am not quite on target here. He makes it sound as though he is playing a lot on notes quickly, he is!! but it sounds very impressive , anyone have a hint or a tab sequence on this.
BTW THis is one of the best forums on the web, I belong to several, , but this one is my favorite, for sure.
