I'd like to hear ideas on what gear and technique Todd Rundgren and other players on Meat Loaf albums use to get motorcycle-sounding guitar.

Much of this technique was done using a slide and alot of distortion, and or sustain. It was done by Randy Rhoads by using the whammy bar to make a ghost bend (pulling upward) on the open G,D and A strings. I figured out the Randy Rhoads technique from the free lessons pages here. It's actually quite simple. First bend the open G string downward to total slack(without picking). Then you can either pick the string, or use your index finger on your frethand to make the note(by pulling-off) as you let the whammy bar return the string to it's normal pitch or normal sounding note. Same on the D and A string. This lick is of course from the Randy Live Tribute Guitar Solo.Give this a try and ...........
