I am very much interested in learning not only the guitar, but also the harmonica and the tinwhistle.
What I've discovered with the tinwhistle is that they are made to play the major scale, such as the D major scale. D, E, F#, G, A, B, C#, D. But now here is the interesting part. It is also easy to play a C on the same whistle, which makes the G major scale possible. G, A, B, C, D, E, F#, G. And playing a G# makes the A major scale available A, B, C#, D, E, F#, G#, A.
So how does this relate to the guitar. Well just compare the D major and A major, or D major and G major. Only one of the notes in the scale changes. Just find it on the guitar.
And harmonica also is built on the major scale. All I need to do is learn how to bend and draw to get the extra notes which are not normally available. Of course I know this is not a harmonica website, but I just wanted to share these interests on the board. And hey if anyone could offer me any help here, I sure would be grateful.
And of course you can play the harmonica and the guitar together.
