I usualy use that one to warm up on,and use alternate picking too.

E|5---------------------------
B|-8-5------------------------
G|-----7(B)-5-------5(B)------
D|------------7-5-7------7----
This one is one of my favs on solo's,its played fast and i use the neck position with lots of gain to give it a fat tone sound

A--------12----|REPEAT|
E|12-15----15-|4 TIMES|And if you want to do a little more with this one, just move to the 15th fret, then 17th,and so on,i also play this in Drop D

here's acouple more

E -----------------5-7-8/10-7-------
B -----------5-7-8------------8-----
G -----4-5-7--------------------7\4-
D -5-7------------------------------
A ----------------------------------
E ----------------------------------

Do the same backwards...

It's in G major. You can also do this (Sounds the same except the slides)

E ----------------------7-8-10-7-------
B ---------------7-8-10----------8-----
G -----------7-9-------------------7---
D ----7-9-10-------------------------9-
A -10----------------------------------
E -------------------------------------

And backwards....

If you use your brain a little bit you can also change this from G major to G minor or whatever you wish.

G minor for example...

E ----------------------------------10-------------
B -------------------------10-11-13----11----------
G -------------------10-12----------------12-------
D ----------10-12-13-------------------------12----
A -10-12-13-------------------------------------13-
E -------------------------------------------------

And with the slide effect it would be...

E --------------------------8/10-----------
B ------------------8-10-11------11--------
G -----------7-8-10-----------------12\7---
D ----7-8-10-----------------------------8-
A -10--------------------------------------
E -----------------------------------------

You can create millions of variations of this simple idea.

Peace, bob

CREDIT: These are not all mine but from other members from my forum ;D

here's a sweepable A Major arpeggio...

(sweepable = play it with one big pick sweep, don't individually pick each note)

also, a note makred ^ is an upstroak and an unmarked note is a downstroak

e|-------------5-9---------------------5-8----------
b|-----------5-----5-----------------5-----5--------
g|---------6---------6-------------6---------6------
d|-------7-------------7---------7-------------7----
a|-----7-----------------7-----7-----------------7--
e|-5-9---------------------5-9---------------------5
^^ ^ ^^^ ^^ ^ ^^^

and an A Minor arpeggio...

e|-------------5-8---------------------5-8----------
b|-----------5-----5-----------------5-----5--------
g|---------5---------5-------------5---------5------
d|-------7-------------7---------7-------------7----
a|-----7-----------------7-----7-----------------7--
e|-5-8---------------------5-8---------------------5

Here's one of my alltime favorite riffs to play. It's from All Along the Watchtower by Jimi himself.

E- 8 - - - - - - 8 - - - - - - - - 8 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
B- - -11b13- - 11- 8 - - 8 - -11-8 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
G- - - - - - - - - - - - - -10 - - - - - 10b12-10-8 - - - 10b12-8
D- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 10 - - - - - -
A- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
E- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

(Exuse the clarity of this, I don't have a tab program)

Yes in fact. There are a few good programs out there. I happen to favor programs that offer good quality customer support. When your first learning a new program, especially creating "real tablature" where the fonts do'nt shift and fall out of alignment, it's important to be able to ask for help, and get it.
I recommend TLC http://www.tabslyricschords.com
Webmaster Mike is the best offering top of the line support, and did I mention that... You can also create bass tabs, 2 guitars, guitar &bass, and lyrics....and , and ..and ... ;D
Quite honestly...Mike offers the best program available.

Hi SixStringer, you mentioned picking, so a question: I know that using a pick and using fingers produce different sounds. Is there a rule of thumb, so to speak, about which you do and when? Without getting too technical, if possible.

I started learning when I was 18 - bare fingers, and didn't stay with it, which I regret. Can you learn using a pick? Or should you always start with fingers?
